The Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) required a new website to replace their existing website. They identified the existing site was outdated, unfriendly, overcomplicated and underused. There was a huge amount of content on their website which needed to be better presented, in an easy to access format. The HDA are the main charity in the UK to provide information, awareness and support to those people affected by Huntington’s Disease and therefore needed a website which was clear, simple to navigate and provided as much information and support as possible. The aim was to improve all users access to online support, awareness and education about Huntington's Disease as well as streamline and facilitate online donations and merchandise sales. A full website audit, redesign and build was required, integration of third-party systems (such as their internal CRM) via APIs, development of a new ecommerce platform (Mercello within Umbraco) for online donations and sale of merchandise, and implementation of a new CMS (Umbraco) as the staff at the HDA needed full control of the content going forward. In addition to ongoing development, hosting, support and maintenance.
Working closely with the HDA, we created a full specification of a variety of user journeys, ensuring the breadth of visitors to the site needs were met. The designs were built and developed to be fully responsive and incorporated organisational brand guidelines. One of the more important aspects of the redesign was the requirement for the new website to generate more donations and sale of merchandise online. Therefore, we researched the most appropriate payment gateway for donations and the shop and fully integrated this with several of their internal systems and platforms. The HDA needed to streamline their administrative processes as they were ‘double typing’ transactions; the solution we implemented integrated fully with all internal systems, so the transactions were fully automated and one smooth transaction from the website. The site was designed, developed and built integrating Umbraco, allowing full content control to various staff members within HDA, of which we provided a number of training sessions to ensure staff were confident in using the system.
We are extremely proud, as is the client, of the website and consider it excellent collaborative and partnership working to reach a design all parties are happy with, together with an enhanced and positive user experience. Since the launch of the website, analytics have demonstrated a much-improved visitor rate to the website and comparing January 2017 to January 2018 there was a 42% increase in online donations. We have continued to work with the HDA to develop the site following go-live as well as host, maintain and support the website and team at the HDA, as well as provide development to the website when required. We are just in the last phase of developing and implementing a new section of the website (older carers specific) which we are aiming to launch at the end of this month.View the website
