An acknowledged lack of national resources to support children in learning about the value of money prompted The Association of Mutual Insurers to contact d2 Digital. The trade association wanted to create a resource that could have a real effect in teaching children about the importance of money and saving from an early age.

HOW WE RESPONDED

Parents and teachers are key influencers in the learning process for young people and d2 Digital included them in the creation of two web resources. Fun To Save was developed for 5-7 year olds, their parents and their teachers with the specific aim to encourage a healthy attitude towards money and savings in the next generation. Saving Squad was then developed for 7-11 year olds based on experiences they may face in their day to day lives, such as going to the cinema or to the local shops to ensure the ‘Fun To Save’ message reached older children as well.

They are both fun, engaging websites that include games and resources for children designed to replicate the saving process.  There is also a section for parents that gives them tips and advice on how to encourage their children to adopt the ideas of these sites, as well as activities they can do with their child to promote these ideals.

For teachers, a resource section provides lesson plans to download which are mapped to the National Curriculum.  This ‘whole of life’ approach to learning created by Fun to Save and Saving Squad, means engagement at home and in the classroom to maximise a child’s understanding of the importance of money management.
