Manchester & Salford Illustrated

Wood Street's Creative Friends recently organised an event called Manchester and Salford Illustrated. It is a showcase of the very best commercial artists and illustrators in the area created to raise funds and awareness for Manchester based charity Wood Street Mission.

The brief was open to professional illustrators based in the Greater Manchester & Salford area and was simply: "What does Manchester mean to you?"

I entered an illustration and was pleased to be chosen as one of the 30 to be exhibited.

As the brief was simple, I kept my rational simple:

Manchester is a bit of a grey, rainy city.
The people bring the colour.

Manchester & Salford Illustrated has raised over £2k for Wood Street Mission on its opening night.

The illustrations are on display for a couple of weeks so come down and see them in real life and make a purchase:

It is a cliche that manchester is grey, but to say that the people add the colour is a beautiful way of turning that cliche on its head. I kept looking at it to find myself and there I am.

...I especially like the tall man whose tie is blowing off to one side.
