During the year a few of us meet up after work to do a bit of crafting and relaxing. We usually chill out on the sofas and generally put the world to rights. We originally started with a knitting circle and several scarves were made to give as Christmas presents to family and friends.
Running up to Christmas 2011 we were wondering what to do. I had already made a collaged cushion at home so we decided to have a go at making some more which we felt would make excellent presents. So we began, Nicola made a list and off we went to shop for basics, including some readymade cushion covers, bags of felt and glue.
Of course being such diverse creatures we all approached the project in our own way. Nicola and Paul (being the designers) sketched out their ideas first (and they stuck to them!)
I watched with admiration as both Paul and Nicola deftly cut out shapes and began to build up their designs on their cushion covers before fixing them into place with special fabric glue.
Nicola’s design was quite complex and once dry; she carefully over-stitched various areas to add texture and depth.
Paul wasn’t too keen to get involved with the sewing side of things but that didn’t stop him producing a uniquely designed cushion of his own.
I continued to knit my cover and was delighted when I eventually finished it, just in time for Christmas.
As you can see from the results, we were all delighted with our attempts. It was a great project and I know that both Nicola and Paul’s partners were delighted with their presents.
