At d2 we have always been keen to support charitable endeavours. When one of our designers, Nicola, got involved in the local Manchester & Salford Illustrated event, we went along to offer our support and buy some of the fabulous prints, including Nicola’s of course. Everything raised during the evening went to the Wood Street Mission, a local charity that supports local children and their families throughout the year.
It was really interesting to chat to Jan from the charity and hear about the very worthwhile work they do. We wondered what else we could do to support them. Here at d2 we have been running a free website www.themouseclub.co.uk for young children for the past 8 years. Being teachers ourselves we have always been inspired by how children learn and develop and as Graham so fondly puts it, by the child in us all!
The mousey characters in the Mouse club are so popular that we decided to write our very own story book entitled ‘Who ate the cheese?’ As well as being a popular story book it also contains ideas on how parents and carers can support their child and develop initial strategies to help them learn to read.
We are proud to have been able to donate 500 copies of the book to the Wood Street Mission. Jan was delighted and has told us they will be used throughout the coming year during their book clubs. They will help explain in more detail the many ways parents can use the story as well as enabling them to visit the website and meet the Mouse club characters.
Wood Street Mission are once again running their Christmas Project 2011 and are accepting brand new toys and gifts for children aged 0 – 13 years old. So if you are inspired to help, get in touch with the charity as I am sure they would love all the support they can get.
